Survey

Thanks to each of you for attending our first PACES meeting, and for your commitment to this vital service that is so desperately needed in our community. As a health care professional, it has been my passion to promote this information in a way that is understandable to the general public and which improves consumer knowledge.

As you know from our discussions, we have before us a great opportunity to succeed in that objective. In order for us to forge ahead without undue additional stress to our already busy daily work schedules, we need to use our time efficiently. I'm proposing:

· Three major community education luncheon sessions. (One per quarter.)

· Focus on Holiday issues during the last quarter ( Caregiver help, Grief and Holiday blues, Missing our Veterans during the Holidays)

· Speaker's bureau menu for small break-out sessions to other community groups

I hope to hear directly from any of you who are willing to speak at these functions. Others may choose to offer their support and help facilitate these events. All of your efforts are deeply appreciated.

Your talents and knowledge are urgently needed to help create the speaker agendas, and to formulate a menu of presentation topics. Please contact me indicating your interests.

_ I would be interested in speaking at the larger presentation events

_ I would be interested in working and coordinating the events

_ I would like to be a resource speaker for a PACES Speaker bureau menu

Our Next Meeting is November 27th at the Senior Center.

We will be meeting the last Tuesday of every month.

A Coalition Can…….

… Be influential due to the collective power of people that is inherent when a group works toward a common goal. This is especially true for effecting change both inside our institutions and outside in our communities.

… Be made up of members from all walks of life and segments of the community. These members can influence those with whom they interact in their churches, schools, workplaces, service organizations and among friends and neighbors.

…Influence our health care institutions to provide needed advanced care planning and end of life care services and hiring of specially trained personnel for those programs.

…Conduct research that demonstrates the need for quality throughout end of life and those services provided, both in terms of finding supportive literature and rallying the community behind the initiatives to address the needs. Focus groups, town hall meeting and needs assessments are all ways of providing valuable information to our health care institutions and community at large.

…Represent advanced planning and end of life care in our community

…Get attention from the media through human interest stories, testimonials, and informational public release articles and by identifying special days dedicated to needed services.

… Be change agents without being subjected to rules, regulations and institutional oversights. They can be free to choose how, when and where they promote these services.

… Make all of this and more happen because they know the needs and culture of their own communities the best. Coalition members can continue their grass roots movement in order to educate and promote quality services.
